It’s time for the summer update of the Eater 38, the answer to any question that begins, “Where should I go to eat?”

This highly elite group of destinations are the places to go to tonight, tomorrow, and again and again. They are are places that must exist, that have had a major impact on or represent the constantly evolving culinary canon of New Orleans.

Every quarter Eater drops a few restaurants from the list and introduces establishments with increasing relevance to the contemporary dining scene. For the third update of 2019, the 38 says so long — for now — to Beraca, Cafe Degas, and Brennan’s, and welcomes Bywater American BistroPiece of Meat, and Maypop.
